LAX to Sao Paulo - 15 hour flight. Arrive in the morning.
Arrive at the at the Sheraton Sao Paulo WTC. - We begin our journey not in the rugged outback but in the largest city south of the equator. walking, stretching, swimming, napping and changing one’s circadian rhythm to that of a bossa nova.
Upscale lunch (or maybe just a bologna sandwich) and dinner in Sao Paulo.
Sao Paulo to Natal - A noonish 3 hour flight to Natal.
Arrive at the hotel at the iconic Ponta Negra Beach. Day at the beach - walking, stretching, swimming, napping and changing one’s circadian rhythm to that of Forró .
Natal to Parelhas - A 3 1/2 hour drive.
Arrive at the hotel.

Parelhas to Serra de São Bento - A 2 1/2 hour drive.
Arrive at the hotel.
Serra de São Bento to Sao Paulo- 1 1/2 hour drive plus 3 1/2 flight

Cuisine - Food identifies a culture and certain types of cuisine usually gets linked to certain countries. The best Brazilian cuisine is typified best in the country’s northeast. Fresh fruits, manioc, beans, rice, peanuts and okra are the staple of Brazilian food, including those used in traditional dishes.
Culture - Northeastern Brazilian culture is tough. The unforgiving year round heat of the northern states breeds strength, and Nordestinos are renowned for being resilient, resourceful and extremely hard working. Central to Nordestino identity is the archetype of the Pioneer. A salt-of-the-earth cowboy type who lives off the land, rides a stallion and remains stoic in the face of adversity and rejects authority. Traditional Nordestino dress is a suede leather jacket and buccaneer hat, often coupled with a cutlass or carbine rifle.
Geological Survey- Examination of the gem containing areas to determine the character, relations, distribution, and origin or mode of formation of its rock masses and mineral resources. Result will be a geologic map and model of the area under study.
Gemological research- Members of the expedition will collect and analyze tourmalines and other minerals.
